    We are working with an established System Integrator company based in Peterborough, UK. 
    They are recruiting for an Applications/ Sales Engineer to join their team. In return for a package in the region £40.000 - £65.000 + Benefits.

    Specialising in the design and supply of customer standard process control systems to the food industry.
    The company is conveniently located in Peterborough, where the Applications/ Sales Engineer’s role will be based.
     
    In this industry, sales are consultative, technical exchanges where a technically biased engineer acts in a consulting, exploratory way with a client to mutually develop a solution to their automation needs.
    While the role is to secure profitable orders for the company, it is essential that the solutions delivered are adding value to the client and meeting their expectation fully.
    Relationship building, technical proficiency and ability to gain the client’s confidence and respect need to be in balance for success in the role.
     
    Key Responsibilities include:
    • Securing orders according to the company sales strategy regarding industry, scope of supply, margin and internal capability & capacity
    • Developing a professional relationship with prospects and existing clients, representing the Client with professionalism, integrity, credibility, and technical proficiency.
    • Consulting with a prospect to present technically viable solutions and guiding their decision making for optimal value add to their business. Value can be measured in financial gain, performance and/ or sustainability.
    • Keeping current on a broad breadth of disciplines, including current software and electrical hardware, control panel design, safety requirements, PLC and SCADA and industrial networking
    • Accurately estimating projects for Client’s scope of supply, including software, project management, hardware and installation & commissioning
    • Preparing written proposals, presenting the solutions clearly and professionally, and preparation of the contracts up to order processing.
    • Accurately transferring project details from the sales cycle to the project team, supporting them during the fulfilment phase to ensure we deliver what was sold.
    • Collaborate closely with all internal stakeholders to align resource capability with commitments to the market.
    • Representing the market’s voice within the company, driving the internal development towards upcoming market trends and value-added propositions.
    • Gathering and disseminating competitor information among the sales & management team.
    • Negotiating all aspects of a project, including commercial and technical matters.
    • Forecasting accuracy
    • Helping to maintain the sales quotation tools for efficiency and accuracy.
     
    Requirements:
    • You will ideally have a Technical/Vocational diploma or degree in electrical or automation engineering or equivalent.
    • You will have demonstrable experience working on turnkey automation and controls projects with time, cost and quality responsibilities.
    • You will have a good knowledge of control system design, including a solid foundation in electrical design and PLC, SCADA and networking configuration.
    • Preferably, you will have a range of experience with Rockwell, Siemens, and Wonderware InTouch.
    • Reaching across all these disciplines, you will be able to create a concept, develop an estimate, prepare a written proposal, and present it to the client. Many opportunities will be retrofits of older systems, so a good understanding of old versus new is important. Familiarity with the food processing industry is a strong advantage.
    • You will be experienced facing the customer and managing relationships across various levels of an organization.
    • Account management experience or Project Management would be beneficial. You will have the ability to interpret technical specification documents and extract relevant data for preparation of customer proposals.
    • Key characteristics for success include entrepreneurial thinking, dedication to timeliness, curiosity and professional pride in helping the client solve his pain points efficiently with solutions where the Client can add value to their success.
    • In addition, you will have strong communication skills, proficient in written English, to accurately capture technical concepts, and be able to adapt the message to the technical level of the audience. This role will require securing the order and formalizing it into a contract; familiarity with the commercial aspects of negotiation is helpful.
    • The role will require willingness to travel throughout the UK and Worldwide.
