    We are working with an established Machines Manufacturing company based in Leeds, UK.
    They are recruiting for a Controls Engineer to join their team.
    In return for a salary up to £50.000 along with excellent employment benefits.
     
    They are a leading manufacturer of metal packaging machinery, shredders, and filter tube machinery, based in West Yorkshire. With a strong reputation for innovation and quality, they design and build highly specialised machinery for international markets. To support their continued growth, we are seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to join the engineering team.
     
    Role Overview:
    The successful candidate will take ownership of the electrical design, control systems, and PLC programming aspects of machinery projects. This will include designing electrical schematics, selecting appropriate components, generating bills of materials (BOMs), writing and commissioning PLC and HMI software, and supporting the full lifecycle of the machinery from design through to the customers on site operational testing
     
    Key Responsibilities:
    • Design and create electrical schematics for machinery using CAD systems.
    • Select suitable electrical components (e.g., PLCs, HMIs, sensors, MCBs, overloads, power supplies, terminals) to meet operational requirements.
    • Generate and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for purchasing.
    • Develop and implement PLC and HMI software to control and monitor machinery.
    • Load, test, and debug software on completed machinery to ensure operational reliability.
    • Work closely with mechanical design engineers and production teams to deliver integrated solutions.
    • Provide support during machine build, installation, and commissioning stages.
    • Maintain compliance with electrical standards, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
    • Use MRP systems to manage component data and ensure project accuracy.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement of design and manufacturing processes.
    • Oversee system installation, commissioning, and handover to clients.
    • Conduct safety evaluations, incorporating performance levels and SIL ratings into system design.
     
    Skills & Experience Required:
    • Proven experience in electrical design engineering within an industrial or machinery manufacturing environment.
    • Strong knowledge of control systems and electrical components.
    • Proficiency in CAD systems for electrical schematic design.
    • Experience with MRP/ERP systems for managing component and project data.
    • Proficiency in PLC & HMI design and configuration for industrial environments. (Omron, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar).
    • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work through debugging and commissioning challenges both in the workshop and on site.
    • Knowledge of safety standards and compliance requirements for machinery design.
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
    • Knowledge of VSD’s and servos
     
    Desirable Attributes:
    • Experience in the packaging machinery, shredding, or similar heavy machinery sectors.
    • Familiarity with automation, robotics, and motion control systems.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
