Service Engineer
We are working with an established System Integrator company based in Newport, UK.
They are recruiting for a Service Engineer to join their team. In return for a salary in the region of £35.000 - £40.000 along with excellent employment benefits.
We are inviting applications from maintenance and service engineers to work within the service team providing 24/7 service and support to contracted customers.
The role involves attending various customer sites undertaking electrical maintenance and ad hoc service as well as working on an on-call rota with the other engineers to cover out of hours call outs.
Our Client is looking for candidates with programming and PLC experience as well as experience within a maintenance role. The role comes with a base salary, plus call out allowance, and overtime rates.
Working within a well-established team, this role provides challenge as well as support to the incoming engineer. Internal training is plentiful, with support from senior engineers and others in the team. Core aim is to develop and train personnel and there are future opportunities for advancement within this role.
We're looking for someone who can think on their feet, problem solve and support colleagues by sharing expertise. The company has a flexible working schedule with hybrid working, a good support structure of like-minded engineers and a team ethos.
If you feel you have the relevant experience in a service, design or maintenance role, with PLC and drive experience and software design skills this role could be for you.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Response to service and breakdown calls on an ongoing basis.
- Support to the company’s existing customer base.
- Maintenance tasks at customer’s site.
- Casual field service to new and existing customers.
- Undertake small project work.
- Assistance to the engineering department, both for support and commissioning assistance.
- Development and generation of service contracts with new and existing customers.
- Facilitation of the company’s service business including reporting and invoicing.
- Training and feedback to the engineering team of problems and solutions development during routine service operations.
- Assist in the growth and development of the service business
- Additional duties outside of call out include routine maintenance and small project work.
Additional information:
- The Service role is 36 hours per week Monday to Friday (8.30 - 16.30 and until 15:00 on Friday) with Friday working from home.
- When on-call, the Engineer is not expected to come to the office but may need or chose to do so.
- Most of the customers are within a 1 - 2-hour drive (on rare occasions some sites further away (Slough as an example) where the job runs into multiple days will include an overnight stay. This happened twice last year across the team so is very rare.)
- On-call – 1 engineer on call through the working week and a 2nd on-call from 15:00 on Friday until Monday morning. If the first person is called out, the second person steps up to answer the phone. During the week the office team pick up call outs in the day leaving the on-call person to pick up calls in the night
- On call rota with 5 others, doing 1 full week in 6 and 1 weekend in 6 as 2nd on call. Average on call payment (for being on call and available to answer calls) for the year is £3032. This payment is prior to any payment for going to site.
- Average annual earnings for a Service Engineer vary (depending on calls and amount of site work) between £40k - £50k
- Overtime rates are x1.5 for anything outside of usual working hours and double time on a Sunday.
